The Para Military 2 is one of Spyderco's best-known folders. This version keeps the shape and changes what it is made of: a lighter handle and a steel built to resist corrosion. This is our read of Spyderco's own product page, not a hands-on test.
What changed
Spyderco calls this the Para Military 2 Lightweight Salt. The handle is injection-molded fiberglass-reinforced nylon (FRN) in bright yellow, which Spyderco says makes the knife more than 25 percent lighter than the G-10-handled Para Military 2. Fewer metal parts also suit the brand's corrosion-resistant Salt Series.

The blade and the lock
The blade is a full-flat-ground, satin-finished CPM MagnaCut, 3.47 inches long (88 mm) and 0.145 inches thick. Spyderco describes MagnaCut as a steel that balances edge retention, toughness and very high corrosion resistance. The knife uses the Compression Lock, and the clip can be moved for left or right tip-up carry. It comes in PlainEdge; the fully serrated SpyderEdge was sold out when we checked.
Price and where to buy
Spyderco's page listed the PlainEdge at $253 on October 3, 2026, in stock. Spyderco's own store is the source we checked; prices and stock can change.
Who it is for, and the catch
It suits the man who wants one knife for daily use and wet weather, and who prefers a light pocket. The catch is the price: $253 is a premium for an FRN handle, and the yellow is loud. If you want a quieter colour or a G-10 handle, Spyderco makes other Para Military 2 versions. Check your local laws before you carry any knife.
Bottom line
A familiar design, a lighter handle and a steel made for wet conditions: the Lightweight Salt is a considered upgrade for people who already like the Para Military shape.
