Porsche Design and Hodinkee are back with the second chapter of their three-watch collaboration. The Chronograph 1 Utility keeps the brand's 1970s design language, but builds it around a new movement and a titanium case. This is our read of Porsche Design's own product page, not a hands-on review.

What it is

Porsche Design says the watch takes the legibility, reliability and robustness of historical military chronographs and turns them into a modern watch. The heart is the WERK 01.340 chronograph calibre, COSC-certified, which Porsche Design says reworks the operating principles of the legendary Lemania 5100. It runs for 60 hours when fully wound.

The dial is matt black with white indices and red accents. The case is glass-bead-blasted titanium, 40.8 mm across and 15.41 mm high, with a sapphire crystal coated with seven anti-reflective layers on both sides. Water resistance is 10 bar, and Porsche Design says the crown and pushers can be operated underwater.

Two straps

You get a titanium bracelet with a folding clasp and fine adjustment, plus a strap in Porsche's Agave Green made from genuine Porsche vehicle leather, with GT silver stitching. Both use a quick-change mechanism, so the watch can go from tool-watch mood to something softer in a minute.

Price and availability

Porsche Design lists the watch at $9,650, excluding tax, and says only 350 will be made. When we checked its US shop page on October 5, 2026, the watch was listed as out of stock. Check the page and Hodinkee's own listing for any remaining allocation, and expect the aftermarket to matter.

Who it is for

This is for someone who already owns a good dive watch or two, such as the ones in our best luxury dive watches guide, and wants a different kind of tool watch. It is a collector's piece, closer in spirit to the Omega Seamaster Bond edition than to a daily beater. For something far cheaper that borrows a luxury look, see the Nivada Grenchen F77. More like this lives in our watch news archive and the Watches hub.
